I Never Met a Potato I Didn’t Like

My guilty pleasure is a bucket of fries on the boardwalk.

Yes, I’ll admit it. However, there are a lot worse foods to be in love with than a potato. French fries are not only American, but worldwide. Who does not like French fries? I have tried listening to stories of people who do not like French fries. I did not find anyone. Right?

A Bucket of Fries on the Boardwalk – just for you!

Very short story: Standing knee-deep in the Atlantic Ocean, our daughter, who loved to surf even as a three year old, demanded we get some French Fries. My son and I looked at her in disbelief. “Right now? There’s no way”, I told her. No one else was around; we were so far down the beach it was almost deserted, but still… they were French Fries .”Let’s go Daddy! Come on!” she pleaded. And then the smell hit us – freshly cooked French Fries only a few hundred yards away. Just imagine being there and having that olfactory awakening.

Here’s just another thought about lusting after some hot French Fries…

Remember, French Fries do not judge YOU – so you should not be one to judge them. Right?

I remember a quote by Dolly Parton (if I’ve got it correct): Potato, potato, potato, I never met a spud I didn’t like.” I see nothing wrong with that. How about you? In moderation, of course. Yeah, right!

Mother Nature Is My Favorite Artist

…regardless of using a Vivid or a Monochromatic palette…

Mother Nature is my favorite artist. Whether her palette is abundant with vivid colors or monochromatic, grayscale or black and white, she creates beauty and intrigue all around us. My “job” as a mortal artist is to capture some of that beauty with a camera – so it can be shared with others.

With “brush strokes” of bright yellow on a red-orange canvas, She painted these leaves in Bar Harbor, Maine for all to enjoy.

The only “color” in this scene (below) was created my man. Mother nature provided the silver monochrome sky and reflections in the Atlantic Ocean and Indian River Inlet in Coastal Delaware.

My respect and admiration for Mother Nature is reflected in my artworks. In most of my collections, nature is the co-creator of each piece I have created or, you may say, documented with my camera. The sun, the sea, the trees, and everything I see in my wanderlust are captured where they are most beautiful.

Two thoughts about Mother Nature’s creations…

Wherever we look, nature is fashioning her own personal art scene. From a sweeping prairie to a quiet pond, from the hills of Tuscany to the streets of New York City– Mother Nature inspires with the perfect canvas and the richest pigments. The result? A celebration of color so brilliant it captivates us all.
Soft white clouds and a bluebird sky may welcome a calico kitten or may be a perfect compliment to the serene grayscale image of a mother deer in her misty woodland home with her fawn. A tranquil scene reminds us all that we can enjoy the simple pleasures in life and breath easier knowing that there is such beauty everywhere around us.

Poppy Seed Roll and a Toothpick

Poppyseed Loaf is a tasty treat for breakfast but you may need a toothpick

In keeping with the breakfast theme and my entries in the “7 Day Kitchen Macro Images” challenge, I thought it might be time for some food to go with the beverages. We’ve already had tea and coffee and a mimosa so now it’s time for a sweet breakfast loaf, a family favorite Poppy Seed Roll.

Easy to make. Sweet yeast bread is rolled out thin and flat, swirled with a delicious pasty poppy seed filling and rolled up into a loaf and baked. Even easier to eat.

But why the toothpick? Think about it – flavorful but small seeds – just about the right size for lodging among the molars.
