First Video Attempt with my DJI Mini Drone

Mostly I am a still photographer but may be learning a new avenue.

I’m starting to explore the video capability of my (small) DJI Mini SE drone. This was done from our back yard just after sunrise this week – no sound/music, titles or anything – just the raw video that eventually pans from Fenwick Island to Ocean City.

Here’s one of my still photographs of a sunrise captured from the exact same location…

Of course, the jury is still out…about video and me…or me and video.

  1. Videos can be great from a drone – especially in 4K, but the key question is what you do with them! I’ve taken quite a number in Hawaii including top down views of waves crashing on rocks, and I have sold those as stock videos. You need to have subjects that are in demand though, obviously. You can find some examples here if this is a direction you want to go in. https://www.shutterstock.com/g/steveheap/video?searchterm=drone&sort=popular

  2. Thank you for the comment, Steve. I really don’t have much interest in video because of that question: what do you do with them. I have plenty to do with my main interest – still photography and I have always loved to fly (even had my own airplane for several years). This drone enables me to do both and add a new “perspective” to my images.

    1. Oh! Nice footage!

Like you, I have a soft spot for still photography, but I’d love to have a drone for my travel site that I’ve started working on!

Other than that, I’m like y’all and not sure what to do with them other than stock photography sites. Do you do pretty well with yours, Steve?

      1. Thank you, KayeCee. Just don’t expect to see (much) more video from me.

As for you getting a drone – DO IT. It can add an unique perspective to travel photographs – that tourists can’t get for themselves. BTW, I love the looks of that website.
